A summary of the add ins available from aHa!coaching, Mindlogik and Olympic Limited have been added to the Cabre web site.

aHa!Coaching has web exports, Excel imports and exports
Mindlogik has a folder struture creation tool and a media manager
Olympic Limited has a Prince 2 system, Word style management, document management, utilities and a quality management system

You have probably been working off line on your iPad and created a new Mindjet for iPad map. Now you are online you want to move it to Dropbox to transfer it to another device e.g. your PC to continue editing in MindManager. This video shows you how to do this.

Thinking Space provides Mindjet with their Andoid app

Mindjet has acquired Thinking Space the Android mind mapping application.

I have been using Thinking Space for more than a year on my HTC Wildfire. It is a competent app: great for taking notes, brainstorming on the go, transferring files between Android and PC, and viewing maps of knowledge that you have created in MindManager. The smart phone screen is a bit small for mind mapping but on an Android tablet, Thinking Space offers more features than some of its counterparts on the iPad.

If you are an Andoid tablet user I highly recommend it. Especially now it’s free as Mindjet for Android. More info at Mindjet’s blog: Mindjet for Android is here.

Can you remove the Mindjet Connect buttons etc. from MindManager?

If you are not using Mindjet Connect with MindManager you can disable the login attempts and hide the toolbar buttons.

Go to File > Options > Mindjet Connect and untick the boxes. This will stop attempts to connect to Connect on start up.

You can also remove Mindjet Connect from the status bar. Right click the bottom bar and untick Mindjet Connect and the Connection Button.

Mindjet announced the release of the service pack today – Mindjet Connect November Release

The main issues for me have not been Connect but loss of functions in the desktop product which I have been using for years. I am pleased to report “verified by me” fixes to these problems in quick inital tests:

Fail – It still removes spaces from your web export Topic Notes text anymore.
~~Pass~~ Fail – The Right click topic > Send to new map is working for PC based maps (not checked Connect ones) Problem occured 6/12/2011
Fail – The Quick Access Toolbar – image export icon is still an Adobe PDF icon!
Pass – The Windows Arrange tool behaves as you would expect. Click a map and it opens.

And the Quick Access Toolbar is reset to the default as per previous service packs.

How do I change the author of a template map?

Why would you want to? All the map templates provided by Mindjet have Mindjet as the author. When you use a template map this information is not changed to your name. If you send a map to someone Mindjet is the author not you.

How do you do it:

Design tab > Template Organiser > Dropdown to Map Templates >

Select map > Modify >

Right click map workbook tab > Properties >

Edit the author and save the map. Email and company will be automatically filled in from your File > Options > User Information when a map is created from this template.

Can you use Mindjet Connect in a browser from your iPad or iPhone?

No – if you use Safari. Flash and Apple don’t mix.

Yes – if you install the Photon Browser. Click the Flash button in the toolbar prior to loading the page with flash in it and this browser switches to an image relaying service. You can load the Files page but before opening a map, tap the flash icon. The page is browsed by Photon’s computer and the image relayed to your device. I did not see any reduction in the speed of browsing or image quality (once I increased the bandwidth setting to 3).

Why would you when there is a Mindjet Connect app for the ipad / iPhone? Because the browser has more functionality and will display more content from your desktop maps.

Of course you need to be online for this to work.

If you bought MindManager 9 Windows after 7 July 2011 you are entitled to a free upgrade to MindManager 2012 Professional. Visit Mindjet’s Grace Period page to get your free upgrade. This is the UK page. There will be a different page for your region. You will need your license key which you can get from File > Help.

My clients who bought upgrades from previous versions of MindManager e.g. 8 and earlier have not been able to get the license key accepted as promo code. If this happens to you contact Mindjet using the deatils on the Grace Period page. You will need your license key and probably a copy of your resellers invoice to get the upgrade.

Why are MindManager files downloaded from my web server as zip or empty?

It’s because your web server does not know about MindManager files. The download process looks at the first lines of a file to identify its type. A MindManager file says it is a zip file. Change the file extension of a MindManager file to .zip and you will see it contains several files. The data and configuration of the map is in the XML file, there will be style files and image files, as well as others.

If you think you have received a MindManager file which has the zip extension, change it to .mmap or one of the others shown below. It should then open in MindManager.

The solution is to add at least the first line of the following code to your .htaccess file in the home folder of your web server (or advise the web site owner). If you are having similar problems with recent versions of MS Office files, add the rest. This declares the file types to your web server and any browser that tries to download the file. Now the vistors will be offered the option to save the file with the correct extension or open with MindManager, if it is installed on their client.

Add the following to .htaccess:
