How do I reset the Style or Theme of a topic to the default for the map?

For a single topic or a selected group of topics:

The quick way

Select the topic and press Ctrl+Space

To just reset the Font or the Topic Formatting

Right click it
Font or Topic Format
Map Theme
Revert to Default Theme (or Style).

If you want every topic to be reset to default:

Expand your map to show all branches
Hit Ctrl+A to select all
Hit Ctrl+Space.

This will reset all topic formats and fonts to their default settings.

Mindjet have re-released MindManager!

They have been listening and now you can upgrade your old MindManager license to a new perpetual license without a subscription. You will get both a Mindjet Windows 11 and a Mindjet Mac 10 license key. The upgrade from all previous versions costs £162 ( £135 excl. VAT). To buy a new license is £270 (£225 excl. VAT) until 28 June 2013, instead of £298.80 (£249 excl. VAT) after that date. There are no web services included: Mindjet Web or Files but you could subscribe to these later.

New Add In for Mindjet / MindManager – Network Builder

Network Builder enables you to create Concept Maps and Block Diagrams using floating topics. The add in has its own ribbon with the tools to choose diagram types (there are many), add nodes and links, position and align, and analyse the diagrams. Update to Mindjet iPhone app creates a map of camera images

The latest update to the smart phone app allows you to take multiple photos and create a topic for each image. You can start a map in “Create Map via camera” mode or enable it later in the map edit. The Android app implemented this functionality in January (see Mindjet blog: Mindjet Tasks and Maps for Android Updates). The iPad app only allows you to create a single photo and topic (for now?).

A useful improvement for those surveying buildings, listing the lots they might bid for at auction, health and safety audits, restaurant reviews, training and coaching for sport,.. Any other applications? I used it to survey a bike I am rebuilding. Click on the image to see the rusty bits! The map is 9.6mb.

I wonder if the images are available to others apps on the iPhone? I’ll leave a comment when I know.

Worth noting: You can take screen shots of your iOS device by pressing the home button and then the power switch. These appear in your camera roll and you can add them to a topic.

The update also mentions “Enhanced Notes compatibility with Mindjet Web and Desktop”. When I know what that means, I will add comment. It does not mean you can see or add images to topic notes. I have just tested that.

Do I need Mindjet for Individuals or Business?

Mindjet for Individuals is half the price of Mindjet for Business (see shop for current Mindjet pricing), so what is the difference?

The desktop products are identical. Both products include a license for Windows and Mac.
Both allow file sharing with your free Mindjet Mobile apps via Mindjet Files.

Mindjet for Individuals

Mindjet for Business

Less file space on Mindjet Web and you cannot share your folders with other users.

Mindjet for Business and Mindjet for Web users can share folders and files amongst themselves and with Mindjet for Individuals users. Users can simultaneously co-edit maps.

You can use Mindjet Tasks but only for yourself, a personal to do list which cannot be shared with others

You can use Mindjet Tasks to assign tasks to other users, monitor their progress and vice versa

No SharePoint Client

You can connect to SharePoint databases to import and export information

Mindjet 11 and Office 2013

Yesterday I updated Microsoft Office 2010 32 bit to Office 2013 on my Windows 8 64 bit Tablet PC. I used the Office 2013 32-64 bit installation DVD. It automatically selected the 32 bit version for the upgrade. Which is good because Mindjet’s Office Add Ins don’t work with 64 bit.

After installation the Excel and Outlook Mindjet Add Ins (Send range, Send item or folder to Mindjet map) was there on the Home ribbon as before. I quickly added it to the Quick Access bar as well (right click the Add In icon).

In Word I had to go to to File – Options – Add Ins and enable the Mindjet Add In. (It may have been disabled in Word 2010 due to issues).

Now I have to get used to the new look of Office 2013. Worth noting there is a new icon on the Quick Access Toolbar for optimising the ribbons and menus for mouse and touch. A feature I expect to see in Mindjet 11 soon!

What does checkout mean?

Checkout means a single user has control of the map. They have checked the map out to their device and no one else can edit the map on Mindjet Files. When a mobile device opens a map on Mindjet Files it automatically checks the map out.

The implications are that if anyone else opens the map and edits it, their changes will not be saved. You can edit a copy and save it but its not fun trying to merge the maps later. Wait for the map to be checked in. Treat a checked out map as a view only map.

Why do I lose my edits?

There is no save button in the mobile apps. It happens automatically but if you want to ensure that a map has been saved and checked in to Mindjet Files, switch to another map. This closes the map. This should ensure your edits have been saved and map is available to others to edit, if stored on Mindjet Files.

Mindjet 11 – First Service Pack Released

Mindjet have announced the release of their first service pack for Mindjet 11 (11.1.353) Windows and Web. You can download the service pack from the Mindjet Download Library. You need to have a Mindjet Login to do this. The update was not available via File > Help > Check for Updates on my PC. I had some error messages doing installation (see Tip) but it seems to have installed successfully (I have contacted Mindjet Support).

Tip: Shut down MS Office and Internet Explorer before starting the Mindjet install. And don’t click the install.exe more than once.

Good to see the Mindjet add ins: “Send to” and “Send Folder to” on the home ribbon in Outlook, Excel and Word.

I had to repin Mindjet to my (old) Task bar in Windows 8 but the (new) Start application icon remained in place and worked.

Should I upgrade Office from 2010 to 2013 now?
