Hi John

You can buy a desktop version called Mindjet 11. It also has access to Mindjet’s web tools but you don’t have to use them and can set the options in the desktop application to not connect.

I am a UK reseller. Please Google for a US reseller.

You will not be alone in using the tool for presenting financial information to clients. There are many Independent Financial Advisers in the UK doing this.

Andrew, I am looking for a desktop version of Mindjet. I have customer financial information that I am not allowed to put in the cloud or on the web. I read a post of yours on the Mindjet website. Do you still have desktop inventory and can you sell to the US?
I plan to use this a map for customers to see thier financial picture.

Added link if you wish to trade in a Mindjet 11 license for Mindjet for Individual license.

Please Note: Mindjet for Individual does not give you a perpetual license. If you do not renew your license subscription, the desktop application will switch to view and print only, and files on Mindjet Web will not be accessible.

If you purchase or upgrade to Mindjet 11 via a reseller and get a perpetual license, you could switch to a Mindjet Web only license when you renew. Your desktop applications will continue working, however you will not get any upgrades. I will find out if it still acts a client to Mindjet Web.

I’m unimpressed that export to Powerpoint has been lost.

That changes my way of working – I normally brainstorm a presentation using MindManager and then export it to Powerpoint. Now I have to save the mm file in mm 2002 format, open it in my still installed copy of MindManager 8 and then export it to Powerpoint.

I’ve been upgrading MindManager for at least six years. That’s the last time I’ll do that unless Mindjet start showing that their customers should be listened to.

I can’t see a micro, small or medium size SharePoint offer from Mindjet either. Mindjet Connect or equivalent does not have the range of functionality available in SharePoint or allow installation on your server.

There are many alternatives for file sharing: Dropbox, SkyDrive.
There are many alternatives for simultaneous editing of mind map files: MindMeister, Mindomo and others

It will be interesting to hear how you get on.

Sounds like SharePoint is using a reasonable file management process.

- A checkedout file means one person has editing rights and can save it replacing the original. This controls and records editing of the original.
- Opening a file, creates a copy for viewing and local editing if desired but it cannot be used to replace the original. Someone else may be editing at the same time. And the last saver would win.

But I guess you know this.

The new pricing model might be Ok for large companies, but for micro companies its not practical. Therefore the above point is academic anyway, as I’ll be switching to an alternative to Mindmanger.

My problem is still that I can’t click on a Mindjet file in Sharepoint and open it, without saving a local copy. I can map a drive and do it like that, but I don’t work like that. I can change, but getting colleagues to change is very time consuming. What i can do is check out a file and then it opens fine, but I don’t understand the difference in behaviour.
