Add Relationships
Relationships are called dependencies in JCVGantt and other project planning software. They show that Task A must be finished before Task B starts, a finish to start dependency. Sometimes tasks can have a finish to finish or a start to start and even a start to finish but these types of dependency are best handled in the JCVGantt view.
Use the relationship tool to add the dependencies. The arrow head is at the start end of the dependency. Don't try to arrange the relationships neatly, you will only mess it up shortly afterwards by adding a new task.
In the example below: The Start links to the first task and then the tasks continue in series in Phase 1 Completion of Task 3 starts three parallel tasks in Phase 2. Note all three tasks then have to be connected to the interim Milestone. Phase 3 is three series tasks and in Phase 4: Task 98 and Task 99 are in parallel and both connect to the Finish.
If you need to modify a relationship: click it and then drag either of the red circles to the new task.
You can reduce the visual impact of the relationships in two ways: 1. Use the Show Hide settings to make them disappear when you don't need to see them.
2. You can change the style of the Relationship. Right Click a relationship > Format Relationship and reduce the weight, perhaps change the pattern. Apply - check this is what you want. Then click Style > Save as New Style Default and all the relationships that have not had their style altered will change to the new style.
